POETRY ((PRO) (FANA)) was launched and curated by Sueyeun Juliette Lee (SJL) and Dawn Lundy Martin in Pittsburgh, PA in 2011. It sprang out of a love for the reading series as a mode of communication, of innovative writing, of the way that even the most unruly texts on the page transform when breathed, performed, and shared in intimately public spaces. We wanted to create spaces in which we could engage in close dialogues with contemporary artists and present diverse work together to promote new conversations, collisions, and insights. As such, the series emerged as an occasional multi-genre reading (& occasional film/performance) series, held in partnership with 720 Records in Lawrenceville, located at 4405 Butler Street. All POETRY ((PRO) (FANA)) events were free and open to the public.
PRO FANA was re-launched in 2017 in Denver by SJL as an occasional salon series held at her home.
